OUR HISTORY
• The Lane County Farmers’ Market can trace
its beginnings back to the first public market
in this part of Oregon, the Eugene Producers
Market, which began in 1915. In fact, that
market was located precisely where our
Market stands today, at Eighth & Oak in
Downtown Eugene. The growth of large
supermarkets and other conditions led to the
closure of the original market in 1959.
• Today, the Market is comprised of nearly
160 growers and producers. Membership is
open to anyone who is an Oregon resident
and complies with our rules. Our basic rule is
that you must grow and produce anything you
bring to the Market, yourself.
• The LCFM currently sponsors three markets:
the Saturday and Tuesday Farmers’ Markets
are open-air markets held in Downtown
Eugene and the Holiday Farmers’ Market is
indoors at the Lane County Fairgrounds.
• Since reorganizing in 1979, the Market
has grown at a robust pace and continues
to strive on the support of those in our community
who cherish the values we embody.
The Lane County Farmers’ Market is the
place where paths cross and people meet -
our common ground.

OUR MISSION
• The following statement defines our Market:
“The mission of the Lane County Farmers’ Market is
to further the health of the entire community by
enhancing the viability of producing and marketing
Oregon grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers,
plants & animal products, through a democratic
association which advances the shared values of
the Market community.
• The Lane County Farmers’ Market gives local
growers access for directly marketing to the
buying public through a centralized location.
• The Market also provides an opportunity for
the community to purchase fresh, in-season,
locally grown and produced farm products, in
an outdoor setting, while interacting directly
with the growers and producers.
• Lastly, as a not-for-profit corporation, the
Lane County Farmers’ Market nurtures the
values embodied in the growing and the
distribution of fresh food by providing access
and support to kindred community endeavors.

OUR ASSOCIATION
• The Organization: The Lane County Farmers’
Market is operated as a not-for-profit corporation, though is not tax-exempt.
• The Board of Directors is a five member, plus
one alternate member, council elected by the

discretion of the Board, an appointed Citizen
Advisor, a non-voting position filled by a
person from the community. Meetings of the
Board of Directors occur monthly and are
open to the membership.
• The Committees of the Farmers’ Market
include: Budget, Operations, Consignment,
Promotion, Tuesday & Holiday. If interested
in serving on committees, please indicate so on
the application or contact the Market.
Committees meet as directed during the year.
• Membership Meetings: The Market currently
has more than 160 members who meet twice
each year in the Spring and in the Fall.
The Spring meeting is to return applications,
confirm memberships, elect new Board members
and to prepare for the season’s opening.
In the Fall, there is a review of the market
season, a discussion about the future and a
dinner for the membership.
• A listing of all Board members, committees,
staff, and a general timeline of all meetings can
be acquired by contacting Market staff.
• Voting: A member must attend at least five
(5) vending markets (where three (3) consigning/
co-selling markets are equivalent to one
(1) vending market) or record at least $500 in
sales, in the course of the current season, in
order to have voting privileges.
• Grievances: In the case of a grievance, first
bring the issue to the Market Director for
resolution. If the issue still remains unresolved,
guidance can be received from the Grievance
Officer appointed by the Board of Directors.
If further action is necessary, a Grievance
Form will be filed and presented to the full
Board for their consideration.
• Market Insurance: The association and
individual members are covered by insurance
should there be an accident or case involving
product liability. Please help one another
in using common sense, especially with regard
to safety concerns. Please bring any safety
